I extracted the following from the Green Building Certification Insitute's website. We all know how confusing credentialing terminology can be, and terminology use like this is NOT helping. Anyone care to translate?
"Professional Credentials
LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes building professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED Certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Green Building Rating System.
The LEED AP credential represents knowledge of the LEED Rating System and its application in practice. LEED APs facilitate the integrated design process and streamline the LEED Certification process. More than 43,000 building professionals from across all areas of practice have become LEED APs since the Professional Accreditation program was launched in 2001."
Okay, no point in distracting you from your work. I did the research and apparently a building project can be LEED certified. Individuals that have expertise in green building design can become LEED accredited. And, of course, they have a Registration Program, which is the precursor to becoming certified (as a building project, that is).
I don't know the group's history, but my guess is that they already used the term certification for the building project, so they felt they had to use accreditation for the individual, to differentiate. I just hope it's clearer to those in the industry than it is to the rest of us.
